Wedding Trends 2017

Welcome to 2017 brides to be!

With a new year come new trends – or possibly repeats of old trends. Either way let’s take a look at some of the awesome wedding trends 2017. One of the first is color. This year color pops seem to be the way to go versus an all white wedding. Take a look at the Knot for some ideas on color combinations! Depending on the time of year you can custom create colors that will wow your guests.

A second wedding trend 2017 we’re seeing is elaborate entrances! Go wild with over the top decor and impress guests on their way to the reception. You can organize a flash mob with your wedding party, arrive in a helicopter or boat, arrive in a shower of rose petals or stage a grand entrance in your venue! The possibilities are endless. You can even think about using unique entertainment at your reception like a fire starters!

And finally for wedding trends 2017 we are seeing a rise in destination weddings! Try getting away from your hometown and go someplace exotic like California, Hawaii, Alaska or anywhere that’s out of the norm. You can also try off the beaten path places like Italy or Iceland. Depending on how many guests are important to you to attend, a destination wedding can be fun for everyone and let all your guests enjoy a mini vacation as well!

Brides often shop at an array of stores for the perfect wedding dress but look no further! Here Comes the Bride in Addison, IL offers amazing designer dresses without the huge price tag. This small bridal boutique has relied on word of mouth to serve the Chicagoland area for over two decades. They have designers such as (but not limited to, as stated on their website), Mori Lee, Angelina Faccenda, Kenneth Winston and Ella Rosa.

They might not look like the high fashion, couture store you’re dreaming of, but trust us, this boutique has more than enough to offer you. The customer service is raved about on Yelp and Wedding Wire.On their Facebook page, check out the bridesmaid dress Lady Gaga wore.

Five Things to Avoid

Five Things to Avoid the Week Before Your Wedding

  1. New Hair Color or drastic haircuts

Even if your colorist is the absolute best, avoid making changes to your hair within a week of your wedding. If you want to refresh your hue without endangering your look, ask your colorist to put a clear gloss on your strands. Wedding trials and consultations start about three months prior to the actual day, and you should keep the same hairstyle throughout the process. Not only will the texture and style of your hair change if you get it chopped, but keep in mind something drastic may not look right with your dress’s neckline, veil, or wedding day jewelry. The closer you get to the big day, the more stressed and emotional you’ll be. You want to make all of these preparations and decisions while you’re still clear headed and calm.Five Things to Avoid

  1. A New Workout

Stick to the routine you’ve been doing. Now is not the time for new moves. Pulled muscles can take weeks to heal and you definitely don’t want to be too sore to get down on the dance floor. If your goal is to lose weight, make sure to start a new fitness program well before your dress fittings. And if you’re just looking for an amazing way to relieve pre-wedding stress grab a friend for a quick walk or run in the park.Five Things to Avoid

  1. Spray Tan Booths

Spray tanning in a booth may be a budget-friendly option for a safe, sunless glow, but there’s a good chance the color you get won’t match your skin tone as well as other fake tanning alternatives. Rather than stepping into a box—which can result in uneven color if you don’t hold your body just so—it’s best to have a specialist expertly apply the tanning solution so it’s evenly distributed and complements your skin color. And don’t forget to lightly exfoliate beforehand. The color will last longer and you’ll literally glow as you walk down the aisle.

  1. Juice Cleanses

I like to think of food as fuel. You need calories to keep you alert and help you get through your crazy, busy weekend. It’s not the time to stop nourishing yourself. Juice cleanses are very low in calories, sapping your energy and making you irritable. And cleanses that include mostly fruit juices are high in sugar. There are healthier ways to lose weight. The week before you should be eating well-balanced meals with a focus on fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water—and don’t skip any meals!

5. New-to-you Skincare Products Peels & Microdermabrasion

A peel or microdermabrasion session promises silky-smooth skin in the future, but it’s a total no-go the week before you wedding. Schedule any appointments for a peel, microdermabrasion, or other treatments like Botox, at least 2 weeks before your wedding in case there is any redness or bruising.

Also, don’t change your skincare regimen if you have fewer than two weeks to go before your wedding. You should change it months in advance. Swapping in a new product could lead to allergic reaction, dryness, oiliness, or a bevy of other side effects that take time to correct. Your doctor can give you a personalized pre-wedding skin care routine, which will address your specific concerns to make sure your skin is radiant for the big day. Your dermatologist should be up there on your to-do list with the dress fittings and flowers.

ear cuff style

Ear Cuff Style

If there was one huge, major, and universal trend we’ve seen throughout the entire red carpet season, starting all the way back into last year, I’d have to say it’s the ear cuff style. There’s nothing largely new about the piece, since we have seen it in several forms on and off for awhile now, but this time it’s gone main stream donning the ears of the Hollywood elite, and making it’s own statement worn with edgy, casual looks to the more gorgeous, ethereal gowns we saw this past Awards season.

Staking it’s claim as a major “of the moment” accessory, the ear cuff has also obviously proved its versatility. So what’s a bride to do? Can we see the ear cuff becoming a mainstay in the bridal fashion world or is it just a trend? The answer is probably buried somewhere in between the two, but the key for more classic fashionistas is the ability to wear the ear cuff style and making the jewels look like they are simply floating rather than wearing a large, bulky piece.

Take Keira Knightly who wore a stunning cuff to the SAG awards and paired it with a very elegant and feminine gown. The look could translate perfectly to bridal and can give those fashion-forward brides yet one more option when it comes to wedding accessories.

And although the ear cuff seems very trendy, the look really lends itself to Old-Hollywood costume earrings with their statement-like quality and sometimes feathery look on the ear. They  manage to stand out yet look completely delicate at the same time. And the best part? Everyone from the most high-end jewelers to Etsy and Forever21 are showing them this season- making them ultra luxe or super affordable. Either way, the options are pretty great.

For those Brides on the fence? The look is perfect to be paired with a short white mini-dress for a rehearsal dinner or even a sophisticated white suit. For bachelorette parties and showers or pre-wedding soirees, don’t forget to switch up your look and infuse a little bit of fun and interest to each look. The ear cuff just might be the perfect ticket!

Braids Braids Everywhere

Braids Braids EverywhereBraids, Braids Everywhere!

Braids Braids Everywhere – We knew when we saw one of our favorite bloggers, Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere devoting an entire post to the perfect braided updo tutorial that this “trend” just might be more serious than we initially thought.  And who are we kidding? Braids have been around forever, in so many forms ever since Pre-K when we first started donning to do.  But let’s face it, the look has gone through more transformations than almost any other hair look we can think of and now it’s not just a natural, boho, hippie look that can only be worn at outdoor summer music festivals (are we the only ones on Coachella overload right now?) No, wedding gals, the look is EVERYWHERE and we’re breaking down how to pull it off and more importantly, how to pull it up into a mega-watt hair home run that you may even want to consider for your wedding.

braids braids everywhereYes, we said it. A braid with your wedding gown.  But before you go all timeless hair lecture on us, let’s take a look at some braided looks that are equal parts sweet as they are ethereal and gorgeous.  A few years back, fashion favorite, Sienna Miller wore the milk- maid updo to the Golden Globes with a conveniently wedding-ish Marchesa gown. The look was breathtaking and only seemed to highlight how incredibly and naturally beautiful Ms. Miller is. The same can be said for the ever-chic Nicole Richie who rocks the braid with her signature boho look and carries it off with even her most classic, sophisticated ensembles as well.

When poking further into the braid craze, even the pop-ups from Saks Fifth Avenue ( also known as my computer’s very tempting cookies) guess the ron and center hair look being shown with everything from Oscar de la Renta to Moschino and Gucci and Louboutin… well you get it. Yes! It’s the braid. And for this high-end retailer, they are taking it to the max with a timeless dutch- favorite braided updo. So there you have it. Those in charge of dictating our every fashion move this coming season have spoken and you better get braiding.

Don’t worry. You’re not the only ones still scratching your heads over the recent “ Conscious Uncoupling” of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow.  If Hollywood marriages age in dog years, then we shouldn’t be surprised that the Celeb elite are now coming up with a more chic way to say “We’re splitting up”.

Celebrity Wedding AdviceFrom Perez Hilton

So it comes as a welcome refreshing breath of air when someone in the limelight seems so unaffected by it and offers up realistic and of course, ultra stylish advice. Enter Lauren Conrad- teen reality star turned do-gooder with her lovely Kohl’s clothing line, book series, and very smart website appropriately named, www.laurenconrad.com where she appeals to the every-girl. And now that she is a bride-to-be, we love following her every move and getting to the bottom of her super sweet and fashionable tips for brides. Here are a few of our faves:

Celebrity Wedding Advice

Always do a trial run: Who doesn’t want to look insanely glamorous on their wedding day? But don’t forget that you should look like YOU. NO surprises, no new makeup or hair trends, just the best version of yourself with styles that accentuate and compliment your unique look. Lauren is a self proclaimed purist- always knowing what looks good on her. She even swears “you’ll never see her with short hair.” Reason being? While we are certain she can rock just about any look especially a super chic bob, she just doesn’t feel as confident with short hair and feels that it isn’t her best look. Instead, from time to time she opts for a faux bob by pinning her hair up loosely and playing with the look for a night. Another great tip for undecided brides who may want that look for the ceremony but want their signature long hair on display for the reception.

Celebrity Wedding Advice

Don’t ask your groom about things he doesn’t want to know about: For Lauren, she wanted her groom to see sketches of her dress. He refused and wanted a traditional reveal on their actual wedding day. “ I ask him, is it a good time?” And she very quickly gives him a rundown of the must-know details to get his thoughts. Flowers, centerpieces, and décor are left totally up to her ( since of course that is her forte!) and wedding music ( he is a musician) is the element he wanted to solely focus on.  Dividing and conquering and putting your own personal seal on the things that matter most is the best way to avoid fights and end up with  a wedding that is a perfect mix of you and your groom.

Spring Wedding Trend - Pink

Spring Wedding Trend Pink

Spring Wedding Trend - PinkIf you have to describe this Spring’s biggest look in one word, well here it is: Pink. Light pink, hot pink, ombre pink, pink as a neutral ( what?!), you name it and it’s going to be everywhere. And with so many options, hues, prints, you really can’t go wrong with finding the perfect tone to compliment your skin.

Pink also isn’t just for blondes anymore.  You may be thinking of bubble gum pink on Barbie, or Julia Roberts’ wedding in Steel Magnolias where blush and bashful really translated into pink and more pink of the pepto bismol kind. But we have seen pink for weddings in the last few years in a variety of special ways. We adored Kaley Cuoco’s all pink custom Vera Wang gown, Jessica Biel is tiered pink Giambattista Valli for her wedding to Justin Timberlake, and who can forget the all-time pink dipped dyed favorite from Gwen Stefani’s John Galliano wedding gown. But it’s not just for the bride anymore- new details are cropping up all over the place that makes pink accessible for everyone and all types of weddings.

Pink for the boys: Southern weddings have been doing it for years. Sharp pink bowties or light suits with pink dress shirts. The looks is equally preppy as it is fun and photographs beautifully. PSpring Wedding Trend - Pinkink can be so subtle that is can also be in place of a neutral white. That’s why for guys, it’s the perfect way to add a hint of color and switch up the basic white shirt. It also looks fantastic against a white gown!

Pink décor: Pale pinks, peaches and blush are often much more elegant and subtle than a bold pop of pink. We have been covering the ombre effect for quite some time and no other color seems to compare to the beauty of using multiple shades of pink. Paired with vintage accents and gold flatware, the look is impossible to beat. We love seeing it for Spring with the freshest pink and white peonies.

Pink for the girls: So we know when it comes to colored wedding dress, pink is always the first choice. Brides for years, even before it became popular have opted for a pink gown or a light blush when they realize how insanely beautiful the color can be on so many skin tones. It’s almost impossible to say no for some brides. And even for Brides that go for all white in their dress, we LOVE the new hot pink gowns from BCBG and other designers showing the pop of color for bridesmaids who then carry all white flowers. You can even add them to a pretty neutral palette for that shock of bright color. We love the surprise element and the color looks great on most people! Spring Wedding Trend Pink.

Oscars Fashion Roundup

Oscars Fashion Roundup

Ah, the Oscars. Hollywood’s biggest night. And fully aware that we live most of the time with weddings on the mind, we couldn’t help but see the similarities. You wait all year for this one day of glits, glam, tradition and whether you walk away as the belle or beau of the ball or not, everyone loves to recap and talk best parts, and best dressed. Sound familiar? The great news is that each year, these industry leaders are at the forefront of fashion trends for the year ahead and like most brides, we are eagerly awaiting their every style move to garner full bridal beauty inspiration. This event was no exception. Here are some of our favorite looks to take note of and interpret for your own big day!

Oscars Fashion Roundup

Cate Blanchet: It must sound like a broken record at this point. This woman can literally do no wrong. Her Armani Prive nude illusion dress with plenty of embellishment in the overlay was ripped straight from the runway and fit her statuesque figure perfectly. The best part of this look was the head to toe perfection. Normally, you see stars with lighter complexions staying away from light peaches, nudes and blushes, however we think those hues are absolutely perfect for someone as fair as Ms. Blanchet. The key is to go for an all over glow and play us a luminous skin tone. Her look from hair, makeup, those incredible earrings that played up the light in her face, and illuminating gown were the perfect combination. And for Brides seeking a slightly different hue than stark white? Once again, we see the incredible value of a minor stray into the blush tone palette. It might just be the most gorgeous neutral we have ever seen.

Oscars Fashion Roundup

Lupita N’yongo: Here comes that broken record again. Lupita is without a doubt fashion’s darling right now and has absolutely been killing it all red carpet season. And it isn’t hard for her, since she might be one of the most beautiful women we have ever seen with a skin tone that absorbs colors so well she literally can’t go wrong. But what we loved the most about her custom “Nairobi Blue” Prada gown, besides the incredible color, was the silhouette. It was a modern day Cinderella with a waist that flared out but was anything but big or ball gownish.  One part Grecian, one part Oscar darling. The look also struck the best possible combination between super traditional and ultra modern. Which is a good thing because bridal designers like Reem Acra have been showing this look for a few seasons now and we think this might be the next big deal is bridal wear.

Oscars Fashion Roundup

The best of the rest with bridal potential? Kate Hudson’s white dress with a slight cape effect in the back ( loving capes!) Jennifer Lawrence in red Dior with a peplum waist. Clearly the peplum is here to stay and we’re thrilled! Camila Alves McConaughey in custom pale pink Gabriela Cadena gown was regal yet understated and would be equally as glam in white. And last but not least, red carpet pro Charlize Theron in black Christian Dior Couture. The silhouette is so classic yet with a modern neckline. Also take note of the black- Vera Wang is showing all black gowns and gowns with black tops and white skirts this season that are surprisingly fresh and beautiful looking.

Can’t wait to see which of these trends takes hold for Bridal Season 2014! Stay tuned!

Vendor Spotlight Boutique Bites Fine Catering

Boutique Bites is a Chicago-based luxury catering firm that serves up food that is equally as delicious as it is beautiful. Started in 2008 by owner Elaina Vasquez, the concept is food that looks almost too good to eat and when you check out their site, you’ll know exactly what we mean.  Elaina’s blog boasts intricately designed dishes that are inspired by her love of fashion (we particularly were intrigued by a purple chip with a scoop of caviar that mimicked a similarly decadent runway look!)  And the theme can be seen throughout much of her other creations- mini burgers in Louis Vuitton-inspired print boxes, and bites that are so rich in color they themselves could be featured in Vogue Magazine.

Some of our favorite sample items that had us drooling? How about Lobster Mac n’cheese in mason jars? Mini pot pies, tapas stations, and luscious caprese bites are just a few of the signature items that you can customize for your specific event. Boutique Bites can service large weddings and galas to intimate dinner parties and bridal showers. And not only are they spot-on when it comes to of-the-moment cuisine, but their affair with tablescapes and food styling put the entire look of their process ahead of the rest.  We aren’t just talking one-note catering here. This place has shown their styling chops with themes ranging from high-end luxe, to rustic and natural and even creates the most beautiful artisanal cheese display we have ever seen! We’ve all heard of farm to table. This is more like runway to plate: elegant and gorgeous, but with tastes to match.  We all know the seemingly difficult decision of choosing a caterer and using a venue that requires off-site vendors.  With so many choices in a city known for its high standards in culinary excellence, Boutique Bites put us over the top with its wide range of options and regardless of scale, their impeccable attention to detail and presentation. Rarely does a vendor come along that you know your guests will ultimately be raving about for years to come- this is one of them! And while we are dying over the creations on their sample menus, we can’t wait to see what custom tastes they can create for new clients! Needless to say, we are bookmarking their blog as we speak!
