Style Me Pretty – Little Black Book

Style Me Pretty – Little Black Book

Music By Design was selected to be a member of Style Me Pretty’s exclusive 2012  Little Black Book.

What is the Little Black Book?

Our Little Black Book is a thoughtfully edited listing of only top quality vendors. Because our style-savvy, sophisticated readers deserve a chic resource they can trust, our book is created with them in mind. Our Little Black Book offers our readers a worry-free browsing experience while our Very Important Vendors enjoy a showcase in keeping with our firm commitment to quality vs. quantity. More than simply enjoying elite advertising space, our members are a handpicked community of artistic experts. In an industry saturated with long lists of anybody & everybody, our book is the most thoughtfully edited resource on the planet: a refreshingly couture idea.

How do you choose the vendors for your Little Black Book?

The process to become a Little Black Book member is actually quite extensive.

First, they need to have been recommended by an SMP reader, a recent bride or an industry professional. We don’t simply look for a referral but rather for a passionate reason as to why a particular vendor deserves to be in the book. Perhaps the designer worked with a reader’s best friend when she was getting married, perhaps they have already designed the world’s most beautiful invitations for a particular bride and groom, perhaps an event planner that we know shares with us the one photographer that she will work with. Whatever the connection, it must be strong and based on a real knowledge of the vendor’s work.

Second, we dive head first into the vendor’s business. Their portfolio, their experience, their time in the industry. We look at press that they’ve received, we chat with their industry neighbors, we get to know who they are and why they are good at what they do. We spend hours on the phone with each vendor, getting to know them, figuring out if they are honest, have a high level of integrity and are truly devoted to their craft. For highly competitive industries, like photography, we also have vetting teams. An unbiased group of style savvy vendors who can fairly, objectively, and accurately evaluate other’s work.

And finally, after feeling completely confident that a particular vendor is fabulous, we invite them to be a part of our book! It’s an invitation only book that truly prides itself on it’s commitment to quality above all else.

Choosing Your Wedding Date

Choosing Your Wedding Date

Choosing Your Wedding Date

choosing your wedding date

Before you make any decisions about your Chicago Wedding DJcaterers, venues, or photographers, you need to start choosing your wedding date. This is the day you’ll celebrate for years to come so choose wisely. To make this weighty decision a little easier and to help you narrow down the date, consider these five factors;

Length of Engagement: Do you have a pre-set idea on just how long you want to be engaged? Did you always envision a lengthy engagement period or are you dying to become Mr. and Mrs. as soon as possible? Whatever the case, determining how long you want your engagement period to last can help you narrow down a specific month or season for the wedding.

Season: Do you dream of a rustic fall wedding or a flowery garden party in the spring? If your dream wedding style rests heavily on a particular time of year, pick a wedding date that works. Granted, this could mean having a very short or incredibly long engagement, but if you have your heart set on seasonal flowers, colors, or seasonal motifs, figure out a way to make it work!

Venue: Popular wedding venues book up fast so if you are determined to get married in a particular locale, you might need to schedule your wedding date around their availability. If you know upfront where you’d like to exchange vows or hold your reception, contact the venue and find out what dates they have openings. Talking to the venue before setting your date in stone can ensure you nab the location of your dreams and pick a wedding date in the process.

Significant Date: Maybe you want to honor your grandparents by getting hitched on their anniversary, or celebrate your own relationship by saying “I do” on the same day as your first date. A meaningful day, such as a holiday, birthday, or anniversary, can provide a great option for choosing your own wedding day.

Other Events: Are there already events on the calendar that your wedding will be rivaling with? Before choosing a wedding date, check with family and close friends about upcoming vacations, events, or other weddings so that your nuptials don’t end up conflicting with another important occasion.

“I would recommend Music By Design to every bride! They provided EXACTLY what they advertised — a professional DJ. I was able to meet with our DJ, BEFORE I signed the contact with Music By Design (which was months before our wedding). The online forms that I filled out before the wedding were easy and they made our reception flow flawlessly. We had a call with our DJ several days before the wedding to review all the details. We sent several last minute changes that were incorporated without any hiccups. Our DJ arrived early to the country club to set up. The music was great and exactly what we talked about ahead of time. Many of our guest commented about how professional and wonderful the DJ was and the music was at the reception. Everyone was up and dancing and our DJ never had to be obnoxious or talk too much. He just played music and kept the party going! I can’t say more great things about this company. If you don’t want to worry about your reception music then use Music By Design”   Meghan & Jeff – 11.12.11

How quickly after the wedding can a couple expect to receive their wedding photo album and/or wedding video?

We can guarantee a final video up to two weeks after the wedding day (an expedited service). Otherwise, a completed edit can take up to 16 weeks. We spend between 30 and 40 hours in postproduction to guarantee the highest quality product possible.

A time frame for completing photo albums really varies from couple to couple. Depending on when you choose the pictures and when we receive them, finalizing a wedding album can take between three and six weeks.

What advice do you have for brides & grooms when considering a photographer or videographer?

The best way to start is to decide how you want the final overall look and feel of your video and photos to turn out. This is different for every couple, but it is definitely a decision that you need to make before the ball really gets rolling. Look at samples of different work to see who really matches your style and personality.
