2015 Pantone Color of the Year: Marsala

Radiant Orchid is out and Marsala is in? Before you go hauling off to decide whether or now this creative and culinary inspired color is for you, let’s take a look at the possibilities for the new “it” color of the design world.
2015 Pantone Color of the Year

Marsala might have you thinking of your favorite chicken dish to order out. Named for the Italian Marsala wine that is known for its rich yet delicate flavor and overall sweetness. The color is a bit of the same. Heavily notes with deep, rich fall hues yet subtly romantic and universal for all the seasons. The great part about radiant orchid was seeing it used in a variety of themes and seasons. Hopefully Pantone continues the trend of making their favorite colors multi-dimensional.

The color is a welcome change from the brighter colors of recent years and plays perfectly into the coming winter months. Marsala is taking designers straight from Fall all the way to Valentine’s Day events and beyond. The idea is to show its versatility and we can’t wait to see how it transitions from rich, deep color partners like eggplant and multi-tonal moss greens, to romantic whites come early Spring.

So what are the hates saying? Only that “Marsala” is just a cheap version of tired Burgundy. Burgundy again, named after the deep color of a Burgundy wine, and inspired by those rich flavors to be used in everything from runway looks to wedding tablescapes, but mostly reserved for the fall fashion season and colder weather events. The bright side of Marsala is the hope that we can find new hues to pull into the warmer months that don’t scream rustic fall wedding.

We can’t wait to see how experts will use the new color trend and hope brides alike will jump on the wagon!
