Oscars Fashion Roundup

Ah, the Oscars. Hollywood’s biggest night. And fully aware that we live most of the time with weddings on the mind, we couldn’t help but see the similarities. You wait all year for this one day of glits, glam, tradition and whether you walk away as the belle or beau of the ball or not, everyone loves to recap and talk best parts, and best dressed. Sound familiar? The great news is that each year, these industry leaders are at the forefront of fashion trends for the year ahead and like most brides, we are eagerly awaiting their every style move to garner full bridal beauty inspiration. This event was no exception. Here are some of our favorite looks to take note of and interpret for your own big day!

Cate Blanchet: It must sound like a broken record at this point. This woman can literally do no wrong. Her Armani Prive nude illusion dress with plenty of embellishment in the overlay was ripped straight from the runway and fit her statuesque figure perfectly. The best part of this look was the head to toe perfection. Normally, you see stars with lighter complexions staying away from light peaches, nudes and blushes, however we think those hues are absolutely perfect for someone as fair as Ms. Blanchet. The key is to go for an all over glow and play us a luminous skin tone. Her look from hair, makeup, those incredible earrings that played up the light in her face, and illuminating gown were the perfect combination. And for Brides seeking a slightly different hue than stark white? Once again, we see the incredible value of a minor stray into the blush tone palette. It might just be the most gorgeous neutral we have ever seen.

Lupita N’yongo: Here comes that broken record again. Lupita is without a doubt fashion’s darling right now and has absolutely been killing it all red carpet season. And it isn’t hard for her, since she might be one of the most beautiful women we have ever seen with a skin tone that absorbs colors so well she literally can’t go wrong. But what we loved the most about her custom “Nairobi Blue” Prada gown, besides the incredible color, was the silhouette. It was a modern day Cinderella with a waist that flared out but was anything but big or ball gownish.  One part Grecian, one part Oscar darling. The look also struck the best possible combination between super traditional and ultra modern. Which is a good thing because bridal designers like Reem Acra have been showing this look for a few seasons now and we think this might be the next big deal is bridal wear.

The best of the rest with bridal potential? Kate Hudson’s white dress with a slight cape effect in the back ( loving capes!) Jennifer Lawrence in red Dior with a peplum waist. Clearly the peplum is here to stay and we’re thrilled! Camila Alves McConaughey in custom pale pink Gabriela Cadena gown was regal yet understated and would be equally as glam in white. And last but not least, red carpet pro Charlize Theron in black Christian Dior Couture. The silhouette is so classic yet with a modern neckline. Also take note of the black- Vera Wang is showing all black gowns and gowns with black tops and white skirts this season that are surprisingly fresh and beautiful looking.

Oscars Fashion Round up: For the Bride

There might be no bigger display of what’s to come in terms of fashion than the Oscars red carpet. For one night, Hollywood’s elite step up to the challenge of walking the fashion plank with close to a billion viewers waiting eagerly to see what they will wear. And while there are always the usual suspects of heavyweights that seem to never fail us when it comes to getting our fashion fix, the Oscars is always good for a few newcomers to have a major debut fashion moment and establish themselves as key players.  Given that Spring is just around the corner, designers also scramble following the show to make sure that their ready to wear designs that are widely available to the public are in line with the trends we see on Hollywood’s biggest night.  As usual we had some major favorites and we are pretty sure that some huge trends were set.  Here’s the round up and some thoughts on what you can expect to see in bridal fashion very soon.

Charlize Theron:  A loyal Dior girl at heart, once again the fierce beauty hits it out of the park in what else, but white! White on a red carpet has to be one of our favorite looks of all time and given how easy this look would be to interpret for bridal, we just can’t help but go crazy for it. The peplum bodice is so on trend and the sleeking skirt with a train is perfect for a wedding.  Take note of what body type this works best for. Clearly, we can’t all look as statuesque as Ms. Theron, but for the taller gal, this look definitely accentuates long, lean lines.  It’s also perfect for someone with a no so defined waist- the peplum is perfect for giving you a more forgiving belted feel. Clean, white, classic and timeless.  It doesn’t get much better than this!

Theron

Kerry Washington: Ever the fashionista, Ms. Washington takes a chance with a red hue against the carpet and it paid off big time.  Her Miu Miu gem of a dress took top honors on several best dressed lists and for good reason. The new color is actually a hybrid of orange and red that some are calling poppy. It’s fresh, vibrant and photographs beautifully.  And the beading on the bodice adds an interesting and very modern accent. This is our pick for color trend of the summer. Whether you’re a guest, mother of the bride, or part of the wedding party- the hue is complimentary on almost every skin tone and we can’t wait to see more of it!

Washington

Amy Adams: The pale blue Oscar de la Renta was straight off the runway but we could see it exactly as-is coming straight down the aisle. The subtle blue color is a perfect alternative for brides craving a pop of color and the dress itself is fit for a princess. We adore the entire look with simple, soft hair and natural makeup. We can just picture brides everywhere pinning this exact look!

Adams

Naomi Watts: A true fashion forward girl after our own hearts.  Her Armani Prive gown was custom made and fit her like a glove. The full beading head to toe is another option for the fashionista bride. Not to mention the interesting approach to asymmetrical. There’s not much more to say about this look other than it’s pure perfection. From her messy hair pulled back and simples but stunning jewelry, the look is a work of art and we expect to see it copied in all metallic’s including white!
