Plan Your Wedding Photos

Plan Your Wedding Photos

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again: Your wedding day is one of the only days you will have most of your loved ones in one place. Because of this, you must plan your wedding photos accordingly. While, of course, many of your wedding photos will center around you and your bridal party, you don’t want to miss out on photos with your other loved ones too. To accomplish that, you need to organize your guests by the connection they have to you and to each other in a grand list for your photographer. Here’s how you should start to plan your wedding photos with your special wedding guests.

Immediate Families

The immediate families include the parents and siblings of the newlyweds. These photos are usually not forgotten, but they are important to organize nonetheless. Some details to keep in mind are:

  • Is there an old family photo you’d like to recreate alongside your formal photos?
  • Are there any family dynamics the photographer should be mindful of?
    • I.e. Divorced parents, differently-abled or handicapped family members who may not be able to stand for long, etc.

Extended Families

Extended family includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins. This group of people requires a lot of photos. This is often the most overlooked group of people for wedding photos. Being that this is one of the only times in your life you’ll have a photographer present, it’s so important to get photos with your aging relatives. That being said, keep in mind any physical difficulties your elderly relatives may have while taking pictures. Many couples also have special relationships with aunts and uncles. Therefore it may be important to get one-on-one photos with special family members too. The easiest way to organize this larger group is to divide them by individuals/one-on-one photos and large group photos. Some important photos for extended families may be:

  • Individual/One-on-One Photos:
    • Grandparents, together and individually. Also with the groom/bride together and individually.
    • Aunts & Uncles, together with the newlyweds, and potentially individually too.
    • If there are specific special cousin relationships you might also want individual photos with them too.
  • Large Group Photos
    • The entire side of the prospective families (just the bride’s side, then just the groom’s side) including grandparents, cousins, parents, and siblings
    • Grandparents group photo (bride’s side and groom’s side separately) with the immediate families
    • Grandparents group photo with the extended family (bride’s side and groom’s side separately)
    • Divided extended family, families the bride and groom may be close to (ex. Uncle John’s family with the bride and groom)
    • Just the bride/groom’s generation of cousins

Specific Friend Groups

Oftentimes newlyweds have friend groups from various stages of their lives. Just because they were not in the bridal party does not mean you cannot get special photos with them. An easy way to accomplish this is to have your wedding photographer coordinate with your wedding DJ. The DJ can call the various groups to the dance floor for group photos during any reception downtime. Here are some potential groups you may want photos with:

  • Elementary School Friends
  • Middle School Friends
  • High School Friends
  • Sports Team Friends
  • College Friends
  • Work Friends
  • Neighbors

All Your Wedding Guests

What is more fun than getting a ginormous group photo of all your loved ones together on your wedding day? This often-overlooked photo will be so fun to look back on. You’ll be able to remember who was at your wedding, even as years go by.

If you have this detailed list to give to your photographer you will surely not miss any cherished photos with your loved ones. You will never regret being organized in advance. Each couple has different family and friend relationships, so organize this photo list in a way that works with your relationships. We can’t wait to see your special wedding photos from your organized list! Tag us in your wedding photos or email them to hello@ChicagoWeddingBlog.com. If there’s one wedding vendor you want to get right on your wedding day it’s your wedding photographer. Choosing an experienced photographer is key to cherishing your wedding moments for years to come. Because there are so many wedding photographers in the Chicagoland area, we’d like to feature one amazing one. We would like to introduce you to MBD Wedding Photography to learn why we think they are fantastic wedding photographers.

1.) How would you describe MBD Wedding Photography & photographers?

Our photographers can be described as Artistic/Creative Photojournalists. The goal is to capture your wedding day in a style that allows you to relive specific memories for years. If your children look at your photos years from now, you can piece together the memories from your ceremony all the way until your first dance. The smallest details, the funniest moments, those tears of joy, and those unexpected surprises on the dance floor will all come rushing back when viewing your photos.

Having been a wedding industry leader for over 25 years before offering photography services, Music By Design has built long lasting relationships with award winning Chicago area photographers. After the word spread that Music By Design started MBD Photography and began offering photography services, those same photographers reached out to us looking for an opportunity. This situation gave us the luxury of choosing some of the best photographers in the country. Our photography staff is composed of the industry’s best and we are proud to be affiliated with such amazing artists.

2.) What recommendations do you have for couples booking their wedding photographer?

It is important to choose a company that offers the complete package. Amazing in-office customer service and award winning photography. Be sure to communicate your expectations and be wary of a company that says yes to everything. It is important your company offers an honest and open level of customer service to create a refreshing experience, giving you piece-of-mind during the booking process and beyond. At MBD Photography, if you are looking for something we do not provide, we will be honest with you. It is important to us to cultivate a relationship with each couple we work with, and that relationship is built on trust. Our goal is to fulfill and exceed your vision for your wedding photos and we believe great communication is how we achieve that. MBD Photography embodies the same dependable philosophies that made Music By Design a leader in the wedding industry.

3.) What photography packages does MBD Wedding Photography have?

As today’s couples are more budget conscious, the standard 12 hour wedding package is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Therefore, we offer 10 hours of wedding photography. That is enough time to cover from Noon to 10pm and capture your entire wedding day. In addition, to honor customer demands, based on our market research, our pricing structure is very simple and straight forward. All prices and options are listed on our website ‘MBD Photography   , but always be sure to ask if we are offering and discounts or promotions.

Your wedding package includes your professional photographer, online planning system, digital hi-res images with print rights, online gallery for sharing and viewing images, and digital downloads.  You can choose between one or two photographers. A second photographer results in more view points and angles of your ceremony and reception. More information on our wedding packages can be found on our MBD Wedding Photography wedding information page on our website.

We also offer engagement sessions, which is a great way to get to know your photographer even more before your wedding day. You and your photographer will discuss location and details for your engagement shoot. We are also happy to offer tips and suggestions on everything from what to wear for your engagement shoot to beautiful locations that photograph well. If you are in need of suggestions, don’t be afraid to ask. You can find more information on engagement and event packages at the MBD Photography Event Options page on our website.

4.) What makes MBD Wedding Photography different than other wedding photographers?

After being the industry for years and seeing all types of photographers, we differentiated ourselves by only hiring the absolute best Chicago has to offer. We understand that is a simple answer, but that is what truly makes us one of the best in the country. In addition, we take care of our team. We value our photographers’ skills and expertise, so they enjoy working for us. When people feel valued and love what they do it definitely shows in their work and, therefore, your wedding photos!

5.) Do you have any favorite fellow wedding vendors you love working with?

Our favorite vendors include our sister companies: Music By Design and Photo Booth By Design. Regarding venues, here are some of our favorites in no particular order. We love these venues because the staff is amazing and the venues are beautiful! And…let’s not forget the amazing food – delicious!

Riverside Receptions
Emerson Creek Events
Fisherman’s Inn
Heritage Prairie Farm
Hotel Baker
Herrington Inn & Spa
The Armour House

6.) Tips for couples who are organizing their wedding photography timeline?

When organizing your wedding timeline, look no further than Chicago Wedding Blog, of course. Quick Tips: keep your timeline simple and trust your vendors to ‘make it happen’. For example, a great wedding DJ will control the flow of your wedding in coordination with all your vendors – including your banquet captain. This will allow you to enjoy your family and friends without having to stress about what is happening and when. Your experienced DJ, such as Music By Design, will take care of the rest.

Elle Taylor Photography

Our Vendor Spotlight: Engagement & Wedding Photographer, is featuring Elle Taylor Photography this month. Elle Taylor is a local wedding & engagement photographer in the Chicagoland area. Elle Taylor Photography’s style is beautiful, bright natural light photography. She loves bringing couples’ love stories to life in her photos. Elle also loves light pink and her puppy. Trust us, you want to learn more about Elle Taylor Photography and her beautiful photos. Because of this, we’ve interviewed Elle so she can tell you about herself and answer your wedding planning questions!

1.What is your favorite part of  being an engagement and wedding photographer?

My favorite thing about shooting engagements and weddings is the relationships I’m able to make with my couples. They’re all SO sweet, and I am genuinely so excited to meet them/see them again when I photograph their engagement sessions and wedding days. I always leave with a full heart (and full memory cards, haha!)

2. What attire or clothing advice do you give couples when they plan their engagement photos with Elle Taylor Photography?

When planning for engagement photos, I send each one of my couples an in-detail outfit planning guide with my favorite tips and tricks for coordinating outfits, my favorite stores to purchase clothing for their “formal” looks and their more “casual” looks. I also send them tons of inspiration photos from other couples’ outfit choices to help show what outfits will look like when paired together for their photos. The most important thing I tell me couples to remember is to make sure that they’re comfortable in the outfits they choose because if their uncomfortable, it’ll show in the photos.

3. Is there an experience you’ve had while photographing an engagement or wedding that you will never forget?

This is such a hard question because I leave the majority of my engagement sessions and weddings with my face hurting from laughing so much with my couples. I could never forget any of them, but there is definitely one shoot that I will never, ever forget. After one of my shoots this past summer, I got engaged!! My fiance (boyfriend at the time) had been setting everything up while I was at the shoot, and he surprised me later that night 🙂 Best day ever!

Vendor Spotlight Kelly Vanderploeg PhotographyEverytime I pick up my camera, my heart starts beating a little faster. I am a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP), which is not that common…that test nearly kicked my butt.  I am also a proud member of Professional Photographer of America (PPA), Professional Photographers of America – Northern Illinois (PPANI) and Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI). I offically opened my proverbial “doors” for business in 2007.  That was when I was trying to be a mom, a wife, a paralegal and a photographer…and doing none of them well.  Today, as a mom of four, it is a daily struggle to balance it all, but it is a way of life I have learned to embrace. I am a hugger.  I am shorter than people think.  I try keeping life simple.  I love home improvement projects.  I love a spontaneous dance party and I keep music playing in our home 24/7.  I eat more cereal than Jerry Seinfeld.  I call Geneva, Illinois home. Check my website and drop me a line if you see something that makes you smile. Also, my Vander Blog is filled with some great weddings.

I am lucky enough to shoot all my weddings with my BFF, Faye, so, when you book me to shoot your wedding, you get her as a little bonus (unless you are having a smaller wedding and just need one photog — in which case, we can chat).  We have both been brides and also stood up in each other’s weddings.  We have seven kids between the two of us, including two sets of boy twins, so we are prepared for anything and are anxious to get out of the house.  The fast pace hustle & bustle of a wedding day gets our creative juices flowing and makes our hearts flutter.  We dress in black and are ninja-like…seriously, you may not even know we are there at times. Ironically, we both speak Spanish (truth be told, I am more fluent after a few margaritas), but we also speak perfect “wedding”.  This is a non-verbal language spoken with the eyes in which fluency increases after shooting weddings together for so many years.  We are there to capture your day as it unfolds…we are not there to run the show, but are ready to direct traffic when the time comes. And I can not guarantee you won’t find us on your dancefloor…it might have been known to happen…just sayin’. Vendor Spotlight Kelly Vanderploeg Photography.
