The Emmys Fashion: The Color Wheel

The Emmys Fashion: The Color Wheel

So let’s just say this year’s Emmy’s weren’t our favorite. The show was pretty lacking in excitement and as we learn every year, it’s certainly no Golden Globes where all of the celebs get to sip on (perhaps too much) Champagne throughout the night and have some of the best acceptances speeches and fun surprises of the entire awards season.  This year, the winner’s were totally unpredictable, and while we like the change up and are thrilled about the Jeff Daniels win (cue major Newsroom fans!) we can’t quite put our finger on what was missing. You give us 3 hours of Neil Patrick Harris hosting anything and we should be entertained, right? But let’s get down to the real business of the nigh: The Fashions! And again, we must warn you that this year was not full of groundbreaking risk takers, but they did make one statement that inspired us to do things a bit differently when reporting our favorites. They brought the color! And big time- the stars were the perfect models for this season’s hottest hues and how to wear them and here are the standouts in each color category!

Emmys-Best-Dressed

Nude/Blush: So we knew following Fashion week that there would be a huge trend of sheers and blushes. Tones rather than one distinct color. And this hue is always a crowd pleaser, whether it’s a metallic take or a sheer overlay, this night it was a hard trend to miss.  Leading actress winner, Claire Danes, who is always in tune with high fashion , chose a deep plunging and backless number from Armani Prive fit with perfectly lush palette detail on the bodice and sheer full skirt with delicate embroidery. Definitely a best of the night! Paired with her chi faux pin-up bob, it was a perfect mix of Old-Hollywood meets new school. Julie Bowen also followed suit in a blush light pink Zac Posen creation. Donning a super ruffley fishtail and a portrait neckline (hello stunning in white for a wedding!) Julie looked fresh, young, and the total package of pretty in pink. Again, the hair was super simple and chic, just easily swept up to focus on the incredible detailing of the dress.

Blue: There is no mistaking- the deep cobalt blue color is here to stay. Judging by the sleek, custom Narciso Rodriguez and strapless Ralph Lauren worn by Allison Williams, we are going to be seeing this color everywhere this season! Both ladies chose very minimal jewelry which made the look so modern and effortless while letting the bold color be the standout. Not only was it impossible to ignore, it was also so flattering on both women, which got us thinking: Could BLUE be the new BLACK?

White: White on a red carpet can be a game changer. Just ask celeb stylist Rachel Zoe who has a near breakdown when dressing Oscar host Anne Hathaway and the academy requested no white dresses in fear of clashing with the stage. Well this red carpet had some of the most fashion savvy gals in Hollywood in signature white.  Kerry Washington, People Magazine’s Best dressed woman in the world, and big-time nominee, chose a simple silhouette with major gold beading and white appliqué detail in a dreamy Marchesa frock. Perhaps an homage to her super-secret wedding that took place this summer? And Taylor Schilling was ultra sleek in a high-slit, high neck Thakoon number that has us thinking- could she be one to watch? We think so! Another big standout in white was the always cutting edge, Kate Mara in a very mod, yet glam J. Mendel with long sheer sleeves and major slit.
